August is here, but it's still not easy to find an Xbox Series X in stock. Neither Xbox Series X nor Series S are ever readily available, but restocks do occur at major retailers roughly every week. Walmart's Xbox Series X restock today marked Xbox's first major restock this week. As usual, Xbox Series X sold out almost immediately and Series S stock wasn't available for long either. While it's not impossible to secure an Xbox Series X or Series S, you have to actively try (or just be very lucky). With that in mind, you'll want to stay prepared and keep an eye out for Xbox Series X direct listings.

Target's Xbox Series X restocking strategy has changed quite drastically recently; the new retailer policy is that

Xbox Series X and S can now be sold as soon as inventory is available

, rather than waiting for set delivery dates. That means we're now seeing Xbox Series X availability almost every day at Target - however, that's only for select locations with extremely limited inventory. As such, you should ensure your postcode is updated before checking availability at Target. Order Pickup and Drive Up will be available for online orders, but no in-store console purchases are permitted.

Track Twitch bot tracking console restocks in real time

:

Twitch user killercam1020 has 24/7 stream

which uses a bot to track restocks for the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 at major retailers. The ever-moving wall of text usually displays "Out of Stock" in all stores, but when the bot detects the Series X is in stock somewhere, you'll be one of the first to know if you watch the feed. You can also follow

Cameron Ritz

, who manages the feed, on Twitter for updates.

Don't buy from strangers on Twitter

: it's never a good idea to buy the Xbox Series X at random on Twitter which offers it to you with a slight increase. Even if the account is verified and

seems

legitimate, Twitter scams are commonplace and you don't want to risk losing hundreds of dollars. Stick with major retailers and try to buy at list price.

Stay connected at major retailers and ensure information is up to date

: For ease of payment, it is best to have up-to-date accounts at all major retailers, such as GameStop and Walmart. Also verify that your shipping and billing information is correct. You don't want to update these sections during a restock when Series X could be sold out at any time.

Be prepared for exact restocking times when announced in advance

: Typically, Xbox Series X restocks happen without much warning, but Walmart and GameStop in particular have been known to announce restocks in advance, although it could be anywhere from a few days to an hour before restocking. These pre-announced restocks can sell out particularly quickly, but being ready on your computer with payment information handy will give you the best chance of snagging an Xbox Series X.

Keep an eye out for smaller retailers p>

: Stores like Amazon and Best Buy aren't the only places to buy an Xbox Series X. You can also find next-gen consoles at stores like Newegg and Antonline. Stores that require some membership may also be a good option, such as the Exchange (military only) and Costco.

Know if you're ready to buy a plan

: Some retailers only sell the Xbox Series X in expensive bundles - these include the console along with other items like a bonus controller, Game Pass membership and games. You're paying a premium here to get products you want or don't want, so you have to ask yourself if you're willing to pay above MSRP just to own the Xbox Series X.
