Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 50 Gaming Headset for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, & PC/Mac

After my last helmet died, I was looking for a good alternative that wouldn't break the bank. I'm a gamer, so I wanted a headset that I could wear comfortably for long periods of time and had a decent mic for voice chat during co-op play. I first found and tried the Creative Fatal1ty gaming headset only to find it an exercise in frustration trying to get it to work. After returning this headset to Amazon, I decided to try the Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 50 gaming headset and see how it performed, as I've always heard that Turtle Beach is a good brand. Once I got the headset, I took it out and decided to give it a try with my PC. The first thing I noticed is that the mic that comes with the headset is detachable, which is a nice little perk because you don't have to have a mic on your face all the time, even when you're not. don't use voice. The headset also had a 3.5mm mini headphone jack and comes with a splitter for separate headphone and mic mini jacks. But since I plugged my mic into the back of my PC case, I found that the stock cord length without the splitter was too short to use on its own, so I'm currently using it with the splitter for the extra length. So I would like these headsets to come with a longer cord in the future to provide a bit more flexibility. On the cord itself is a small toggle box for the mic and for raising and lowering the volume. It's quite simple, even if it's a bit smaller than my old helmet. No part of the headset is USB powered either. Personally, I didn't find it meant much to me and according to those I play with, my voice comes through clearly without any issues. The headset's earcup padding is quite thick and soft, and also offers good filtration of outside sounds even from a TV running at a decent volume in the background. They fit quite comfortably on my ears and I'm not really complaining about them. The plastic top band padding is a little thin though, and while it could be thicker, it didn't cause me any issues with prolonged use of the headset, although it could be important for a person without thick hair to provide extra cushioning. the plastic the helmet is made from is quite light and although I have read concerns that it would be too thin and flimsy on the band part, this has not been an issue for me. I even dropped the headset on the floor a few times and had no cracks or breaks. Finally, the sound of the headset itself is excellent. I'm no audio expert or anything, but for my gaming needs the headset provides everything I could want in the sound department. My only issue is that the volume they provide is a bit low compared to my old headset, so I have to turn up my PC volume a bit more than usual. Haven't tried this headset with my PS4 yet, but when should I be sure to update this review. Overall, though, I think this headset is very nice for the PC gamer or average voice chat user because it gets the job done. I give it 4 out of 5 stars mainly because of the short cable length.
