The New Xbox Wireless Headset Features Multi-Device Connection
Microsoft has unveiled its new wireless gaming headset and, aside from what you might expect, one of its surprise features is a godsend.
Simultaneously pair your phone and console to Xbox Wireless Headsets
It's true, according to an article on
XboxWire
, which details the new wireless headphones, you can:
Other than those who work in the video game industry, it's hard to imagine anyone's employer being so happy if you're sitting around playing Warzone while trying to handle a major customer call.
However, this feature means you can converse with family and friends on your phone while you chop heads in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, or race on dirt tracks in Wreckfest.
Currently, there are other models on the market that can technically do this, such as the Turtle Beach Stealth 700. However, this requires a dongle. The official Xbox headset does not.
What else can the new Xbox Wireless Headset do?
Obviously, the above is quite a "back" feature compared to the usual attributes of a wireless gaming headset, but it's worth fussing about, nonetheless.
Of course, the headset is great for everything you want from a gaming headset. Obviously, it's wireless, so no messy cables will get in your way while you aim for a touchdown in Madden '21.
The headset also features an immersive, full spatial sound setup. This is compatible with various technologies, including Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone:X.
The ear cups that cover your ears act as rotary controls, allowing you to adjust the balance between your game and a conversation phone.
Microsoft also takes care of battery life. You get 15 hours of juice in these gaming boxes which is perfect even for long gaming sessions. It doesn't quite match the battery life of the
other wireless gaming headsets on the market
, but you may be able to extend this by changing the settings. p>
Attention, this value of 15 hours is subject to the optimization of the helmet. It won't last as long at full volume and if you're chatting and listening to music all the time too.
Microsoft has scheduled the headset to launch on March 16, 2021. They will be available through multiple retailers with a price tag of $99.99. It looks like the Microsoft store has already sold out of pre-order stock.
Can you use the new Xbox Wireless Headset with other devices?
You certainly can. The headset is compatible with Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, any PC running Windows 10, and Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices (including tablets).
This means that you can use the Xbox Wireless Gaming Headset with xCloud games. If you are currently accessing
to xCloud via your Android device
, the headset will work fine.
A pleasant surprise from Microsoft
The Xbox Wireless Headset was a pleasant surprise to many (although eagle-eyed fans spotted them in Xbox Series X/S promo footage). The headset seems to have plenty of features, and that multi-device connection is a significant plus.
If you're not sure about the $99.99 price Microsoft is putting on its new headset, there are plenty of other options available out there. However, you expect the best quality and compatibility from a proprietary device.
