Exynos Samsung Galaxy S10 Google Camera (Gcam) port status: Here's what we know

NOTE: We have created an archive with all important development features related to Samsung Galaxy S10 series. We are constantly updating the site with the latest S10e/S10/S10+, so you don't have to search for your device information daily. Go here to access the page.

It may sound fascinating, but you can always notice different patterns in the aftermarket modding communities of all popular gadgets. Take the Nintendo Switch as an example: many users encountered permanent bricks after jailbreak and blindly installed malicious custom firmware (CFW).

In the Android world, there are predefined formulas that users must follow like a sheep to obtain the designation "geek". Unlock the bootloader, install running custom ROMs, and bug the developer(s) with/without proper logs - just to name a few!

Another great example is Google Camera ports. Don't get me wrong, the developers have (in fact still) done a fantastic job of porting the exclusive Pixel Camera app (often referred to as GCam) and related finishing features to third-party phones.

The thing is that the whole project is just a proof of concept. Modders never promised to deliver a fully featured and stable Google Camera port for all non-Pixel phones.

In fact, they need user feedback to fine-tune the settings and incorporate missing features.

For Qualcomm Snapdragon powered phones, the porting task is relatively simple. Google uses the same Snapdragon SoC in its Pixel phones, so the raw image data is processed by the Hexagon digital signal processor (DSP) in both cases.

On top of that, if the target phone originally supports the Camera2 API, things will be like butter. Readers may recall that the Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy S10 had a near-functional Google Camera port - even before commercial release!

However, Exynos users are treated differently.

In one of our previous articles, we explained the differences between the Snapdragon and Exynos models of the Galaxy S10 series. In short, Samsung sells S10 models powered by Exynos 9820 all over the world, except for the United States and China.

As readers might assume, the Exynos SoC comes with its own Image Signal Processor (ISP).

< p > For this reason, it is extremely difficult to port Google Camera to Exynos powered models.

Veteran GCam modder IDan1109 invested heavily in porting the Pixel 2 camera app to the Exynos Galaxy S9/S9+/Global Note 9. Its modes would also work on the Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+, although features such as portrait mode and auto exposure do not work properly.

You can download the modified Google Camera from here: GCam_5. 1,018.177470874.41362666_IDan_N6_3.5_fix.apk

On the other hand, the legendary Google Camera holder Arnova8G2 is trying to modify the Pixel 3 camera app for Exynos powered models.

Arnova mod can be downloaded here: MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova_TlnNeun_V1.3.030119.0645.apk

To reduce complexity, IDan's mod comes with 3 m different oduser:

Day:

Save all image folders enabled

Denoise back and front multiplier 160

XDA member Android_Nayeem also shared a complete guide and known Google Camera APK files for Exynos Galaxy S10, S9 and Note 9 models.
