Once considered slow compared to its Chinese counterparts, the South Korean tech giant has once again stamped its authority in the market.
Although Samsung introduced different screen models including the infinity V, infinity O and infinity U, it also offered the
Galaxy A80
which didn't actually have a dedicated selfie camera. Instead, the phone's rear panel would slide up and the pill-shaped rear camera module could rotate to become an on-demand selfie camera.

That said, the fact that Samsung has never introduced a phone with a pop-up selfie camera may soon change. According to patents filed by the South Korean company in mid-2020, it is working on a unique selfie camera system which, instead of just popping up, it will rotate and then elevate to allow users to take a selfie.

, this patent was awarded to Samsung in January this year and it shows that the company wants to design a phone with a triple rear camera setup but without a dedicated selfie camera. Although the rear camera module rotates 180 degrees to face to the user, offering the highest camera as a selfie shooter, whenever needed.
This intricate design will allow Samsung to place a high-resolution sensor on top of the vertical camera array and use it to shoot videos and selfie images, resulting in better self-portraits and videos. Samsung can improve the selfie experience by inserting an ultra-wide angle lens to capture more details in the image, thus providing a much better selfie experience.
That said, this isn't the first phone to house a pop-up selfie camera, but could easily be the most complicated setup. And while that might sound extremely geeky, such add-ons are
extremely delicate
and require proper care. Another major drawback of moving parts, especially those with a pop-up module, means that the phone may lose water and dust resistance.
