PlayStation VR:
There's nothing quite like taking a PlayStation VR headset out of its box, putting it on your head for the first time, and immersing yourself in the wondrous worlds that only virtual reality can deliver. Virtual reality is intense, surreal, and unlike anything we've seen in video games before.
At the same time, there's nothing worse than plugging in your PSVR for the first time, only to find it's not working the way it's supposed to. To help you troubleshoot, we've compiled a list of some of the most common issues affecting Sony's VR headset, along with the steps you can take to fix them. Not all will affect all users, especially those with motion sickness, and not all solutions we provide will guarantee solving your problem. Your headset has tracking issues
Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends
If your PlayStation VR headset isn't tracking your movements correctly, you might see an "out of area" message appear or notice that your in-game avatar is moving around without your direct input.
Solutions:
The issue could be lighting related, as the PlayStation Camera mostly tracks your headset via a number of blue lights on its surface. However, tracking issues can occur for a variety of reasons, so don't lose hope if the first few solutions don't work for you.
Make sure no other light sources are interfering with the PlayStation VR headset or camera.
Sony noted
that the tracking problem may be from light reflecting off a window or mirror, so if possible, cover them. After adjusting nearby light sources, you will need to adjust the PlayStation Camera. To do this, go to
Settings
, select
Devices
and choose
Playstation Camera
.
If your lights don't seem to be the problem, make sure you're in the designated play area and the PlayStation Camera can see you clearly. If possible, position yourself about six feet from the camera, with your helmet clearly displayed in the image.
If the above steps don't work, wipe both PlayStation Camera lenses with a cloth. The problem may be caused by a dirty lens.
A variety of Bluetooth devices can interfere with your headset's signal. Make sure all controllers, including PlayStation Move controllers, are linked to the same user account as your headset and controllers.
If none of these steps resolve your issue, your tracking issues are most likely caused by a hardware issue. Luckily, you can easily set up a repair using Sony's online service tool
.
Headset does not turn on or off
< p>Maybe one of the problems you are having is related to the headphones turning on or off. Several cables need to be plugged into your headset, CPU box, and PlayStation 4 console for the system to work properly, including a USB cable, two HDMI cables, a power cable, and a cable going directly to the headset. Make sure they are properly connected before you start troubleshooting your headset.Solutions:
If your headset is properly plugged in and won't turn on, the problem may be with PSVR. system software or a piece of hardware.
Update the PSVR system software before trying any other steps, which can be done the same way as the PlayStation Camera. To do this, go to
Settings
and select
Devices
. Then select
PlayStation VR system software

If your headset still isn't working, check and make sure the processor light is white. If it's red, turn off your system, unplug the processor, plug it back in, and try turning on both your console and headset. If that doesn't work, you'll need to contact PlayStation Support directly, which you can do using the following phone number: 1-800-345-7669.
If the light on the processor box is white and you still can't see your PS4 screen through the headset, make sure all HDMI and USB cables are plugged in properly, as well as the headset connection cable . Then try any other additional cables to make sure they are not causing the problem.
If changing the cable doesn't solve your problem, try cleaning the "attachment sensor" on the front of the headset. — with a rag.
If these steps don't work, your headset probably needs to be repaired. To arrange a repair, contact Sony at the following number: 1-800-345-7669.
Screen image is blurry
Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends
One of the most common PSVR issues is a blurry image, but this can often be fixed by simply adjusting the device to better suit your eye orientation and unique head measurements.
Solutions:
You should be able to eliminate all blurry images in a matter of minutes by checking a few settings and properly adjusting the PSVR to suit your head. This will likely need to be redone if another player is wearing the headset.
Using your PS4's Quick Menu, which can be brought up by pressing the PlayStation button in the middle of your controller, select< /p>
Tune PlayStation VR
and
Adjust the position of the helmet
. The “Reach Adjuster Button” on the bottom of your helmet and the “Headband Release Button” on the back can both be used to give you a precise and comfortable fit. After putting on the headset, use the rear dial to adjust the picture. This will likely fix any blurring issues you may be having.
If that doesn't solve your problem, you may need to adjust the headset's "eye-to-eye" distance. To do this, select
Settings
and choose
Devices.
Then select
Playstation-VR
, choose
the distance between the eyes,
and follow the on-screen instructions. The PlayStation Camera will then measure your face – just make sure you're about 70 centimeters away.
If these steps don't fix the blurring issues, you'll probably need to send your PSVR in for repair. . To arrange a repair, contact Sony at the following number: 1-800-345-7669.
Screen image “drifts”
Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends p>
When using the PSVR headset, whether in "cinematic" mode or when playing VR-enabled games, you may notice your image drifting to one side of the screen.
Solutions:
This is a common problem that in many cases can be fixed simply by adjusting the camera or quickly recalibrating your headset.
If you're playing a standard PS4 game or watching a movie using PSVR and the image has drifted to one side, Sony recommends simply pressing and holding the "options" button on your controller . This will reposition the screen and should fix the problem.
For PSVR compatible games, the drift is more than likely caused by the PlayStation Camera rather than the headset. Make sure you are positioned directly in front of the camera, with about 1.50 or 6 feet between you and the device. Also make sure the camera is not on a vibrating or moving surface. If so, it could be due to its proximity to your PS4. Consider rearranging your consoles and equipment if this is the case.
Some users have also reported success when switching from the new cylindrical PlayStation Camera to the older design, which is more stable and vibration resistant. p>
If these steps don't work, Sony suggests placing the headset in a stable, vibration-free location for 10 seconds.
PlayStation VR makes you sick
Julian Chokkattu/Digital Trends
Virtual reality sickness is a very common occurrence, especially among people who experience motion sickness on roller coasters and in high-speed vehicles. The caveat of immersive virtual reality is that it can affect your balance and poise, making you feel uneasy when you're, in fact, completely still.
Solutions:
No single solution will relieve everyone's VR-induced nausea, but there are a few steps you'll want to try —
detailed by PlayStation VR users
— to make your PSVR experience as enjoyable and vomit-free as possible.
Don't play standing up.
The vast majority of PSVR games are meant to be played seated. If you feel nauseous and your sense of balance is already off, you risk not only exacerbating the disease, but also injuring yourself.
If you start to feel sick, we strongly recommend that you do not ignore these feelings.
Try closing your eyes and taking deep breaths to see if you can calm the nausea.
Try some natural remedies.
< p>Peppermint and ginger both havef
a fantastic reputation
to help relieve symptoms of nausea, and you can mix these spices with teas or other foods quite easily.
Dramamine
is an effective and popular over-the-counter medication to help relieve nausea and motion sickness.
If your natural remedies aren't helping, and the problem isn't going away on its own, this medicine might be helpful. Manufacturers first created the product to combat motion sickness, seasickness or airsickness, but it is also useful in virtual reality. This medication often causes quite severe drowsiness, so do not take it if you must drive or operate heavy machinery. Children under 12 should not take the full adult dose; To be on the safe side, they can try the
formula for children
.
Consider starting with less intense VR games or experiences.
Below, you'll find a full table of PSVR games that are common enough to make payers sick, along with alternatives to keep people feeling unwell. Virtual reality should be a fun experience for gamers. If you get sick often, consider sticking to more normal video games.
