In terms of display, the S9 stands out as the comfortable winner - at least on the specs pages. Samsung's flagship features a 5.8-inch or 6.2-inch curved panel - depending on the version of the device you choose - quad-HD Super AMOLED. It's capable of displaying over 1000 nits of brightness and HDR content like Netflix and Amazon. The OnePlus 6 is no slouch in this department either, with an FHD+ OLED panel that will display the DCI-P3 color gamut.
Battery sizes are quite similar on both devices, with the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus being 3000mAh and 3500mAh respectively. You'll find a 3400mAh cell inside the OnePlus 6. Both phones charge via USB -C and include some form of fast charging. However, only the Galaxy S9 supports Qi wireless charging.
Usually, it's the camera quality that makes the difference between the more expensive handsets and those in the OnePlus 6 price range.

Like the S9 Plus, the OnePlus 6 comes with two rear cameras. One is a 16-megapixel primary sensor and the other is a 20-megapixel one. These two sensors are claimed to work together to deliver improved low-light performance. Both benefit from OIS and video can be recorded at up to 4K 60 fps, just like the Galaxy S9. The OnePlus front camera is 16 megapixels.
OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 – Design
The best way to sum up the design of the OnePlus 6 is that it's part
iPhone X
and part Samsung Galaxy S9. Like the S9, the OnePlus 6 is built mostly of glass and sports a slightly curved back. Both phones are well built and comfortable to hold, but only the S9 has an official IP rating for water resistance. water. OnePlus claimed to have improved water resistance over the OnePlus 5, but there is no official IP rating.
Both devices have a headphone jack and USB-C port, as well as a physical fingerprint scanner on the back. Having a port for your wired headphones isn't a given these days, so including it is welcome here.
Around the front, both phones feature a minimal bezel with large displays. The Galaxy S9 forgoes the now common notch, while the OnePlus proudly displays it. The notch is a small cutout in top of the screen that houses the front camera, multiple sensors and a speaker. Phones such as the Essential PH-1 and iPhone X have made the notch popular, allowing for a larger screen inside of a smaller body.
None of the phones have any ugly branding on the front, or a home button. The handsets come in a variety of hues: the OnePlus 6 may come in glossy or matte black at launch, with a white version shortly time after; the S9 is available in black, gold, gray and purple.
OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 – Which should you buy?
In terms of design, both phones look really good. While we expected that from Samsung, it's nice to see OnePlus take this impressive step in the right direction. We know the S9 is lightning-fast and we expect that the OnePlus 6's Snapdragon 845 delivers equally fast performance.
The OnePlus 6 is of course the cheapest phone here, and it shows in a few areas. There's no wireless charging and no official waterproofing. Plus, it's missing the hi-res panel and extras. such as HDR support and stereo speakers. However, if those are just nice extras for you, the OnePlus 6 might be the phone for you.
