Camera phones have changed the notion of traditional photography, allowing millions of people around the world to capture their favorite moments. What has also become a rage is how quickly people share captured moments on social networks.
Take the case of India, which has one of the largest numbers of WhatsApp and Facebook users in the world.
.
Taking photos and sharing them on social networks is one of the most used features on smartphones.
The emergence of the camera as a key buying factor and the growing trend of sharing images on social media has led Samsung R&D Institute, Bangalore (SRI-B) to develop a social camera for the generation Y.SRI-B is Samsung's largest R&D center outside of Korea.
“During interactions with millennials, it was observed that instant sharing and maximizing social currency is the basic need of young people today. Once the captured image goes into the gallery, it becomes a dead moment and they feel they are behind the race in the social world,” said Girish Kulkarni, Director, SRI-Bangalore.
Samsung's social camera allows users to instantly share, edit and discover content. Users can pin their favorite contacts and social networks to the camera and share their moments with a click. Instant editing helps consumers create content attractive social media ready by applying live filters or live stickers and share it instantly with social media apps.
This reduces reliance on third-party image editing apps. The instant discovery feature adds a whole new dimension through the augmented reality camera that allows users to discover their surroundings for photography locations, restaurants and popular shopping areas.
The development of Social Camera involved a lot of collaboration between Samsung India teams. SRI-Bangalore developed Social Share, Live Filters, Live Stickers within the smartphone camera while SRI-Noida got involved in developing the social footprint - Geo-Like and differentiation in augmented reality.
The concept of pinning contacts and social networks to the camera itself for instant sharing, one of the UX team's global patents, introduces the urgency to share camera captures like never before. urgent need also reduces the gap between the camera and the gallery in the user's mind. What consumers capture with the camera is more for quick sharing than for storing. The concept of Quick Discovery addresses the idea that our users love what they capture and want that appreciation to be known, enjoyed and discovered by others.
The SRI-B team that developed the Social Camera feature for the Indian market

We are already planning to expand this concept to markets markets and roll it out for Samsung flagship smartphones thereafter,” said Dr. Balvinder Singh, Vice President of SRI-Bangalore.
Samsung's Multimedia Technology team in Bangalore has consistently provided the world's first and best camera solutions and innovative multimedia features for Samsung's flagship Galaxy series of smartphones. demands of Indian consumers.
The Indian R&D team has already contributed to the development of the Motion Panorama feature in the Galaxy S7 camera which enables consumers to capture live events in great detail. The Spotlight Selfie feature, which provides consumers with a studio type with a virtual light source, was also developed in India.
SRI-B has also contributed 10 to 12 key camera modes (front and rear) in the award-winning Samsung Galaxy S8. Some of the smartphone's key media features include live media streaming and media creation in gallery with automatic creation of stories, video highlights and image editing.
