How To Fix Bluetooth Headset Mic Not Recognized By Windows 10

Bluetooth headsets come with and without built-in mics. Just like a wired headset with a mic, the mic in a Bluetooth headset will work once the device is connected.

Bluetooth devices are all normally set up the same and if a device has a mic it will automatically register as an input device for you to use right away. In some cases though, when you have more than one device, the microphone of the Bluetooth headset may not be recognized.

Bluetooth headset microphone not recognized

If you have connected a Bluetooth headset with a mic to your Windows 10 PC but the mic is not detected, there are a few simple solutions you can try to fix the problem.

Before you start:

it's a good idea to unlink and

pair Bluetooth headsets

at least once and see if the mic starts working.

1. Select the audio device

A Bluetooth device may appear twice; once as Bluetooth headphones and once as Bluetooth speakers. You must select the correct device for the mic to work.

Connect your Bluetooth headsets

to your Windows 10 system.

Click it

speaker icon

in the system tray.

Click it

drop down arrow

to display the list of devices.

Select the device that is either a

hands-free device

or similar.

2. Enable Bluetooth device services

The Bluetooth headset mic may not be enabled. This is a setting that needs to be enabled on Windows 10 and has nothing to do with the Bluetooth device itself.

Connect the Bluetooth headset

to your Windows 10.

Open the

Control Panel

.

Go to

Hardware and sound>Peripherals and printers.

Right-click on the Bluetooth device

and select

Properties

from the context menu.

Go to

Services tab.

Enable all services.

Click OK

and the mic will start working.

3. Set Bluetooth Services to Automatic

For this to work, Bluetooth requires a few services to run on your system. These services run if Bluetooth is enabled, but you may need to configure the service to run automatically.

Press the

Win+R keyboard shortcut

to open the racing box.

In the racing box,

Walk in

services.msc

.

Go through the list of services and find

all Bluetooth services.

Double-click on each service

, one by one.

Select Automatic

of

Drop-down list of startup types.

Click on

OKAY.

4. Set as communication device

The Bluetooth extension may not be configured as a communication device. The microphone itself may work fine, but applications on your system are probably not using it.

Connect the Bluetooth headset

to your Windows 10 system.

Right click on the speaker icon

in their system tray.

To select

Sounds.

Go to

Recording tab.

Right click on Bluetooth headset

and

select “Set as default communication device”.

Click Apply

and the mic will start working.

Conclusion

Bluetooth headsets don't always work the same when connected. Sometimes it's because the device itself is generic and other times Windows 10 doesn't respond as it should. If the mic doesn't does not work, the solutions above will solve the problem.
