Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 50 Gaming Headset for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC/Mac
After my last headset died I was looking for a good alternative that wouldn't break the bank I'm a gamer so I wanted a headset that I could wear comfortably for long periods of time and had a decent mic for voice chat during cooperative play. I first found and tried the Creative Fatal1ty gaming headset only to find it an exercise in frustration trying to get it to work. After returning this headset to Amazon, I decided to try the Turtle Beach Ear gaming headset Force Recon 50 and see how it worked, because I've always heard that Turtle Beach is a good brand. Once I got the headset I took it out and decided to give it a try with my PC. The first thing I noticed was that the mic that comes with the headset is detachable which is a Nice little perk, because you don't have to have a mic in your face all the time, even when you're not using voice. The headset is also had a 3.5mm mini headphone jack and comes with a splitter for separate headphone and mic mini jacks. But since I plugged my mic into the back of my PC case, I have found that the stock cord length without the splitter was too short to use on its own, so I am currently using it with the splitter for the extra length, so I wish these headphones came with a longer cord in the end. future to provide a bit more flexibility. On the cord itself is a small toggle box for the mic and for volume up and down. It's pretty straightforward, although a bit smaller than my old headset. No part of the headset is USB powered either. I personally didn't find this to matter much to me and according to those I play with, my voice comes through clearly without any issues. The padding on the ear cups of the headset is quite thick and soft, and also provides good filtration of outside sounds even from a TV running at a decent volume in the background. They fit quite comfortably on my ears and I have no complaints not really from them. The plastic top band padding is a bit thin though, and while it could be thicker, it didn't cause me any issues with prolonged use of the headphones, although may be important for someone without thick hair to provide extra cushioning. the plastic the helmet is made from is quite light and although i have read some concerns that it would be too thin and flimsy on the band part, this has not been an issue for me.i have even dropped the helmet on the floor a few times and had no cracks or breaks. Finally, the sound of the headset itself is excellent. I'm no audio expert or anything, but for my gaming needs, the headset provides everything I could want in the sound department. My only issue is that the volume they provide is a little low compared to my old headset, so I have to turn up my PC volume a bit more than usual. I haven't tried this headset with my PS4 yet, but when should I be sure to update this review. Overall, however, I think this headset is very nice for the PC gamer or for your average voice chat user because it gets the job done. I give it 4 out of 5 stars mainly because of the short cable length.
