Samsung SEP-1001RWN Wireless Baby Monitor Camera

Here's my take on a full year of using this camera with our now 1 year old daughter... The good: 1) Very clear picture during the day. 2) Great sound. I could hear my daughter's individual cooing, until she whispered (ba ba baaah) to herself as she fell asleep. I was very impressed with this because this is one of the most important parts of a baby monitor. When she was a newborn, this sensitivity was a little overwhelming because every cough was picked up, but we got used to it. 3) Night vision is decent. I can watch my toddler smack her lips, smile in her sleep, or (more often) collapse into a pile of cuties. 4) Multiple possible ways to mount it and get a good picture 5) Easy to learn and install (I'm not a tech phobic, but I don't like complicated devices) The bad: 1) Lots of 'resetting' where the camera disconnects from the network and reboots. I would say this happens several times a night where we would get about 2-3 seconds of blank screen and then it comes back would. No idea what's causing this and not serious enough for us to fix or replace. 2) The camera makes a slight hum when it moves no matter what others say. Our daughter is the lightest sleeper of the planet, so waking her up just wasn't an option for us. Our solution? We mounted it high above the crib so we could see her without having to do a lot of adjustments. not move the camera or make noise so we can still pan a little in the zoom I would recommend not putting the camera right next to your baby anyway especially if you live in an earthquake country like us in California because she might fall on them in the crib. 3) I said the night vision is good, and it is. But there are those awkward 20 minutes between day and night where the camera just don't know what to do and the visibility is very bad pe 4) The voice option (where you can talk from the base to the camera through a speaker) is nightmarish. Seriously, my husband told me about it once and I screamed and fell on the floor. Another time he tried to calm our baby with a "I'm coming my darling" to terrify our poor girl into inconsolable tears. We played with it, but concluded that despite the distance from the camera , voice or any other setting, if you speak from the monitor base it will sound like Darth Vader and Bane had an evil love child. bad. I always marvel at being able to watch a video of my sleeping child. It seems a bit crazy and futuristic even though I was born in the 80s. My parents (who are baby boomers) think it's a bit too much, but I think when you have a newborn or are worried about SIDS at first it's very comforting to be able to see them. It really is a great little monitor system and aside from its quirks we enjoyed it and actually have two cameras. One for our house and one for grandma's (we just keep it mounted there and bring our base with us).
