When designing the Galaxy S8 and S8+, Samsung went to great lengths to ensure that the UX behind its revolutionary bezel-less designs would foster convenient and intuitive interactions. The Galaxy S8 comes with a seamless interface that allows users to easily navigate the immersive screen and take full advantage of its powerful features.
Tip 1: Familiarize yourself with the navigation bar
- The navigation bar houses the Galaxy S8's Home, Back, and Recent buttons and has a few tricks up its sleeve.
After enabling the Unlock with Home button feature via
Settings > Display > Navigation Bar
, a hard press on the square home button on the Always On screen will unlock the device (a swipe gesture is not required), while a double press will bring up the lock screen. The navigation bar also allow users to customize Home button sensitivity to avoid unwanted presses.
Tip 2: Take full advantage of the Edge screen
- Edge Panels on the Galaxy S8 Edge display provide access to apps, news, and key functions with a simple swipe from the side of the screen.Users can customize their Edge panel selection and add more apps and shortcuts that work for them.
The Edge Screen's Edge Lighting feature adds additional convenience, notifying users of incoming messages by illuminating the edges of the Infinity Screen.Users can access the Edge Screen settings by pressing
Settings > Display > Edge Screen.
Tip 3: Create handy reminders
- The Galaxy S8 allows users to set convenient reminders about interesting websites they need to revisit or create reminders based on texts they receive - without leaving the page they are on.

: When the URL you want to access is already open, just open your browser's sharing options and press the Reminder icon - this will save it automatically.

: In the Messages app, long press the selected message until the Message Options menu appears and choose Send to Reminder. The message will be automatically saved in the Reminder app.
You will always have the option to choose when you want to receive the notification. Reminders can also be pinned to the always-on display, making them visible at all times. To do this, open the Reminder app, tap on the reminder that you want to view and select
Pin to Always On Display.
Tip 4: Power Button and Sensor Shortcuts
– Here are some great shortcuts you can take with the Galaxy S8:
Capture every MOMENT
: The Samsung Galaxy S8 camera launches instantly by pressing the power key twice. The zoom feature of the camera is also seamless, allowing users to easily zoom in or out by flicking slide the white shutter button right or left.
Use the fingerprint sensor to manage functions
: A simple swipe down or up will show or hide the notification panel, while a swipe up on the sensor from the home screen will launch the Samsung Pay app. The function can be found under
Settings > Advanced Features > Finger Sensor Gestures.
Politely decline a call
: In a meeting and you can't answer the phone? With the Galaxy S8, you can politely decline incoming calls with predefined text messages. Quick Reply is activated by pressing the heart rate sensor on the Galaxy S8 for two seconds. device and allows users to send a personalized response tailored to their needs. The feature can be found under
Settings > Display > Edge Screen > Edge Lighting > More Options > Quick Response.
Tip 5: Up Your Screenshot Game
- There is more than one way to take a screenshot. Users have the option to press volume down and power buttons simultaneously, swipe the screen from side to side other with the side of their palm or using the Galaxy S8's Smart Select feature, which is found via the Edge display and lets you select an area of the display to capture as an image or GIF.

, scrolling capture is another useful option designed to help users take fuller screenshots. The feature appears after a screenshot has been taken and allows all scrolling content to be included an application or a page in the image.
Tip 6: Do more with Snap Window
- The Galaxy S8's new Snap Window feature allows users to select part of the most recently opened app to pin to the top of their screen. Users can keep an eye on a video or the stock market, while using the rest of the display for other purposes.
Activate the feature by pulling up your recent apps and tapping the feature's corresponding button.
Tip 7: A fun way to unlock your phone
– After registering their irises for biometric verification, Galaxy S8 users have the option to select a fun mask or background to display when the security feature is enabled.

Settings > Lock screen and security > Iris scanner > Preview screen mask.
Tip 8: Share links with Samsung Cloud
– Samsung Cloud gives users an effortless way to share large video clips and reams of images by creating a URL that allows others to access your shared media.
The feature maintains full image quality and supports files up to 1 GB. Users can save up to 2 GB of content per day. After two days, files are deleted from Samsung's servers.
